“Brooklyn Park, MN (November 9, 2021) – At 09:55 a.m., Brooklyn Park police officers were dispatched to a 911 call from a citizen who had just observed their stolen construction trailer in the area of Highway 610 and Zane Avenue. The stolen trailer was being pulled by a blue-colored Ford truck. Responding officers located the stolen trailer and truck in the parking lot of Hy-Vee (9409 Zane Avenue). When officers attempted a traffic stop on the truck and trailer the driver fled from officers. Officers terminated the pursuit for the safety of community members who were in the parking lot.

The driver continued his reckless driving and drove out of the parking lot, through the grass, down the ditch, through the chain-link fence to escape onto Highway 610. The stolen trailer detached from the truck at this time. The vehicle then became entangled into 200-plus feet of chain-link fence that broke off and was dragging behind his truck while he fled East Highway 610 onto South Highway 252. Brooklyn Park officers reinitiated a pursuit of the vehicle because of the dangers posed by the 200 feet of chain-link fence dragging behind the fleeing vehicle. In the area of Highway 252 and 66th Avenue, the fleeing truck passed another vehicle and the chain-link fence hit the vehicle causing it to strike a traffic light pole.

During the accident the chain-link fence was dislodged from the fleeing truck. The fleeing truck was last seen on camera South Hwy 100 exiting France Ave. The truck is described as a Blue 2007 Ford F250 with Minnesota License MJW169 (photo attached). Vehicle was found to be stolen.

Officers returned to the accident scene and rendered first aid to the 75-year-old male driver who was the only occupant. Unfortunately, the driver passed away. Minnesota State Patrol and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) are conducting the investigation into this incident. Any community members who have information about this incident or the whereabouts of the fleeing truck are asked to call the BCA or police. Pickup wreaks havok during chase (Nov. 9, 2021)
